Recycling of Metals

Posted on 16 June 2021

The South West Middlesex Crematorium participates in the metal recycling scheme which is co-ordinated by The Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM). The scheme recycles the metals which are present after a cremation has taken place e.g. nails of coffins. The scheme is only run with the specific written agreement of the applicant for a cremation. In the past these type of metals were buried but now the scheme has resulted in millions being raised for death related charities all over the UK.

Since 2011 this crematorium has participated in the scheme and has now donated over £122,000 to death related charities. The death/bereavement charities that have benefitted to date are:-

  • PRINCESS ALICE HOSPICE
  • MARIE CURIE
  • CRUSE BEREAVEMENT
  • THE MISCARRIAGE ASSOCIATION
  • THE MULBERRY CENTRE
  • SHOOTING STAR CHILDREN’S HOSPICES
  • AGE UK
  • GOOD GRIEF TRUST
  • MacMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
  • DEMENTIA (UK)

We would like to thank the families who have consented to support this scheme as they have helped make a difference to the above charities and many other bereaved families.
